During the 2014 municipal elections in Saillans (a city in France), a citizens’ list is elected on the basis of a participatory democracy project. The hope raised by this “Republic of Saillans” is immense. Five years later, as the future elections approach, the village meets to draw a first assessment of this political experiment. If no one has forgotten the enthusiasm of the beginnings, exhaustion and disappointment are evident. Will the inhabitants defend the experiment? Will it be extended for a new mandate?
